5 April, 1999: Russel Henderson plead guilty to the kidnapping and murder of Matthew Shepard.

5 April, 1792: President George Washington enacted the first presidential veto. After consulting with the attorney general and his department secretaries, he vetoed the Apportionment Bill on 5 April 1792 on constitutional grounds.
